THE MILLION POEMS SHOW

is my attempt to bring the poetry-reading form up to date with Vatican II -- acoustic guitars, sermons shorter and in English -- that kind of thing. Along the way I've enlisted the help of some excellent poetry-friendly musicians: first  JJ Appleton, then Franklin Bruno.

The show is on hiatus while we convert from a live audience event to longueur-free web video form. Stay tuned.

Q. IS THIS FOR REAL?

A. Yes. Just look at these guests -- poets Rae Armantrout, Terrance Hayes, Gabriel Gudding, Susan Wheeler, Anselm Berrigan, Daniel Nester, Jeni Olin, Bob Hicok, Rick Wirick, and Ange Mlinko have all been on the show; musical guests have included Poor Baby Bree, Mary Lee Kortes, Sasha Frere-Jones, Franklin Bruno, Wayne Marshall, Walter Salas- Humara (of the Silos), Eric Ambel, Have Her Home By Ten, Leslie Mendelson...

Q. WHERE AND WHEN CAN I SEE IT?

A. Nowadays, YouTube. When we resume taping before a live audience, you'll find us at our original home, Bowery Poetry Club (1st and Bowery).

Aside to Student Council Leaders: We've taken the show on the road, too --  in 2005 we played Ithaca, NY's SOON reading series, and in October 2006 we toured Illinois, making stops in Chicago, Normal, and Knox College in Galesburg.

Q. WHY IS IT CALLED THE MILLION POEMS SHOW?

A. In 1990 I had a dream in which I was instructed to write a million poems. Next question.

Q. HOW DO I FIND OUT WHEN THE NEXT SHOW IS AND WHO’S ON IT?

A. Subscribe to the Million Poems mailing list at millionpoems@gmail.com.

Q. HOW CAN I BE A GUEST ON THE SHOW?
A. Drop me an email.
